Women's Issues and Life Transitions

Many women seek therapy for support during challenging life transitions and emotional stress. You may find yourself repeating painful relationship patterns, struggling in your role as a parent or stepparent, or constantly putting others' needs ahead of your own. Major life changes such as marriage, motherhood, divorce, menopause, or becoming an empty nester can also bring unexpected emotional challenges.

Women often carry the weight of heavy responsibilities while navigating complex personal, family, and professional demands. Women's therapy provides a safe, supportive space where you can talk openly about your experiences, gain clarity, and develop healthier ways of coping with stress, relationships, and life transitions.

In our work together, we focus on strengthening communication, establishing healthy boundaries, healing from past experiences, and building emotional resilience. I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed therapy to support personal growth and emotional well-being.

Many women find that therapy helps them develop greater self-awareness, improved relationships, stronger self-confidence, and a deeper sense of inner peace.

WHEN YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER - BUT INSIDE YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED

High Functioning Anxiety for Women in the South Bay

Many women who struggle with anxiety appear successful, responsible, and capable on the outside. They manage careers, families, relationships, and responsibilities while continuing to meet high expectations. Yet internally, they may feel constant worry, pressure, and self-doubt.

This experience is often referred to as high-functioning anxiety.

While high-functioning anxiety is not an official clinical diagnosis, it is a very real experience for many women. Individuals with high-functioning anxiety often appear organized, driven, and productive, but they may also live with persistent stress, overthinking, perfectionism, and fear of making mistakes.

Over time, this internal pressure can lead to burnout, emotional exhaustion, and difficulty relaxing or feeling at peace.

Signs of High-Functioning
Anxiety in Women

  • Constant overthinking or racing thoughts ("what if...")
  • Feeling pressure to be perfect or "do everything right"
  • Difficulty relaxing or slowing down
  • Fear of disappointing others
  • Saying yes to too many responsibilities
  • Trouble sleeping because your mind won't shut off
  • Feeling restless or "on edge" much of the time
  • Being highly productive but rarely feeling satisfied
  • Struggling with imposter syndrome or self-doubt

Many women with high-functioning anxiety have learned to cope by staying busy, achieving more, or trying to maintain control over their environment. While this may work temporarily, it can also keep anxiety cycles going beneath the surface.

Why Women Experience Anxiety Differently

Research consistently shows that women are nearly twice as likely as men to experience anxiety disorders during their lifetime. Women often carry multiple roles and expectations, including responsibilities related to career, relationships, parenting, caregiving, and household management. Many women also experience the "mental load" of planning, organizing, and anticipating the needs of others.

Over time, these pressures can contribute to patterns of:

  • Perfectionism
  • People-pleasing
  • Over-responsibility
  • Difficulty setting boundaries
  • Chronic stress and emotional fatigue

These patterns often develop gradually and may feel deeply ingrained.

How Therapy Can Help With High-Functioning Anxiety

Anxiety therapy for women provides a space to slow down, explore these patterns, and develop healthier ways of responding to stress and internal pressure. In therapy we work to:

  • Understand the beliefs and expectations driving anxiety
  • Reduce cycles of overthinking and perfectionism
  • Build healthier boundaries and self-compassion
  • Develop tools to calm the nervous system
  • Increase emotional resilience and confidence

I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns. Through this process, many women begin to experience less anxiety, greater emotional balance, stronger self-trust, and a deeper sense of calm.

Teens sitting on steps
HELPING TEENS NAVIGATE CONFIDENCE, PEER ISSUES, AND EMOTIONAL STRENGTH

Teen Therapy in Rolling Hills Estates, Palos Verdes, Torrance

The teenage years can be both exciting and incredibly challenging. Between academic pressures, social dynamics, family expectations, and the influence of social media, many teens feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of themselves. Even when parents and teens have a strong relationship, it can sometimes be easier for teens to open up to a neutral and supportive adult. Therapy offers a safe, judgment-free space where teens can talk openly, better understand their emotions, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.

I provide teen counseling for adolescents in Torrance, Rolling Hills Estates, Redondo Beach, and Palos Verdes.

Teen issues I can help with:

  • Social Media and peer comparison
  • Social anxiety and friendship challenges
  • Academic stress and school pressure
  • Family conflict
  • Low self-esteem and negative self-image
  • Identity development and self-confidence
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety and excessive worry, depression, sadness, and emotional withdrawal

Adolescence can be an emotional and challenging time, and it's normal for teens to experience ups and downs. However, when certain struggles begin to interfere with daily life, relationships, or school, additional support can make a meaningful difference.

Your teen may benefit from teen therapy or adolescent therapy if they are:

  • Experiencing frequent anxiety, excessive worry, or persistent stress
  • Feeling sad, withdrawn, or emotionally overwhelmed
  • Struggling with low self-esteem, self-doubt, or negative self-talk
  • Becoming increasingly irritable, angry, or emotionally reactive
  • Having difficulty managing academic/school-related stress or performance anxiety
  • Experiencing challenges with friendships, social anxiety, or peer relationships
  • Having difficulty sleeping, concentrating, or staying motivated
  • Struggling with major life transitions such as family conflict, divorce, grief, or transitions

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in California schools as a teacher and mental health counselor and in Pennsylvania schools as an educator. Through this work, I gained a deep understanding of the academic and social pressures teens face today. I meet adolescents where they are and provide a safe, judgment-free space where they can share what's been weighing on them. During teen therapy sessions, we focus on building trust, exploring what your teen is experiencing, and developing practical strategies to support their emotional well-being. I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to help teens better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
